Kastraki Village
By air
There is no airport near Meteora. The nearest are Ioannina, with flights from Athens, about one and three-quarter hours away via the Egnatia motorway, and Thessaloniki, with international flights, about two and a half hours. Athens is about four hours by road or train.
By ferry
This is an inland area with no ferries. The nearest ports are Volos, about two hours away, for the Sporades, and Igoumenitsa, about two hours via the Egnatia motorway, for Corfu and Italy.
Getting around
Optional for Meteora itself. Trains from Athens and Thessaloniki reach Kalambaka, a local bus climbs to the monasteries in season, and many visitors hike the old paths or join a tour. A car is useful for visiting several monasteries in a day, Trikala and the mountain resorts of Pertouli and Elati.
