By air

Thessaloniki International Airport (Makedonia), with flights from across Europe and from Athens all year, is the gateway to northern Greece. Leptokarya is about an hour and a quarter away by taxi or transfer.

There are no ferries from Leptokarya. The nearest island ports are Volos, about an hour and a half south, for Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, and Thessaloniki, about an hour north, which has no regular year-round island routes.

Getting around

Recommended. Buses link Leptokarya with Katerini, and trains on the Athens–Thessaloniki line stop at Katerini and Litochoro, but a car makes it much easier to reach Mount Olympus trailheads such as Prionia, ancient Dion, Platamonas castle and the beaches.
