By air
Thessaloniki International Airport (Makedonia), with flights from across Europe and from Athens all year, is the gateway to northern Greece. Vourvourou is about an hour and a half away by taxi or transfer.
By ferry
There are no regular island ferries from Vourvourou. In summer, cruise boats explore the coast, and from Ouranoupoli boats sail along Mount Athos, which only male pilgrims with a permit may visit; Tripiti has a short ferry to Ammouliani. For Thasos, Kavala is about two and a half hours away.
Getting around
Strongly recommended. Sithonia’s best beaches, such as Kavourotrypes, Karidi and Lagomandra, are spread along a long, winding coast road, and KTEL buses to Vourvourou are infrequent. A car is the easiest way to explore the peninsula and reach Mount Athos boat tours at Ouranoupoli.
